Icon open door on when door is shut

2010 Mazda6. The icon sometimes comes on when parked in the garage or even stopped at a red light. My mechanic said the passenger door latch assembly is the problem. Rather expensive to fix. I had him take the bulbs out of the front doors so if it goes on, it wouldn't tax the battery. Five years ago there was a recall on the "LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGESOORS:LATCH". I am wondering if this recall fix created this issue. I do not remember seeing this issue immediately after the recall fix was done. What do you think?
