help me to select tires
Hi guys
I'm in the process of buying summer tires for my dodge caravan 2009 , my car actual tire size is 225 65 R17 but I have got a good deal on different size of tires and those tire sizes are 225 60 R17 and the other one is 235 65 R17 and they both are M+S. I appreciate if someone guide me do I need to buy 1 of those tires or not |

Re: help me to select tires
First, I think the Regina under your name is in Canada - right? So I guess I can understand why you referred to "summer" tires, instead of "all season" tires - as in not "winter" tires. There aren't any "summer" tires according to the normal way tires are categorized.
But, there are plenty of tires available in a 225/65R17 size, so why are you talking about a different tire size? But to answer your question, you do not want 225/60R17's - too small! Any reputable tire shop would refuse to put those on. The 235/60R17's are better, because they are bigger. And the M+S = All Season! |

Re: help me to select tires
While M&S are all seasons, M&S literally stands for mud and snow. It basically means they are good for light snow, but don't go trying to trudge out in a blizzard in them.
Your stock 225/65/17 are 28.5" tall. The 225/60/17 come in at 27.63" tall. The 235/65/17 come in at 29.03" tall. They are also 10mm (3/8") wider than your factory tires. You are best off sticking with your factory size.

Re: help me to select tires
I agree that sticking with the tire size specified by the manufacturer is best. Have you checked the tire sticker on the door to confirm the correct tire size for your Caravan? Stick with that size. I'm not sure of the theory that going with a larger is better. Either wider or larger diameter could lead to rubbing on turns or on large bumps. A rubbing tire at speed could be a safety issue, although the differences you're currently talking are not likely to cause a safety concern.
