starting problem

My 85 Camry was overheating so I flushed radiator, found a bad sensor and changed it, Checked fans directly to battery, ran fine. Checked all fuses, no problem. Checked all wiring from RDI fuse, fan relay # 1 to radiator fan, all OK then from CDS fuse to A/C fan to Fan relay #2 to relay # 3. all OK. Lastly, the wires from the resistors in fan relays 1,2,3 to there destinations. All OK
Now ready to start (after filling radiator). Engine turns over but doesn't start. I never had this problem before, I have 239,000 miles.

Re: starting problem

did it get hot enough it stopped running? is it possible when you were checking wires and fans you knocked a engine wire loose? if not you will want to check for spark to plugs and if its fine maybe try some starting fluid to see if its a fuel problem

Re: starting problem

covett69. I have spark and after the car sets for a day it turns over and fires like it wants to run, then stalls. Any ideas?

Re: starting problem

see if it will start up for a moment on starting fluid, if not you should run a compression test

Re: starting problem

Crvett69. I have started it with starting fluid. Also compression isn't great 145 on 2 cylinders and 2 at 165. . Starting to look at the main relay, airflow meter, and circuit open relay. Must test fuel pump also. I don't really want to drop the fuel tank if I don't have to. I will keep you posted.

Re: starting problem

Most times the fuel pump is accessed from under the rear seat cushion.

Do you hear a buzzing from rear, when first turning the key to II ?? (from the fuel pump)

The tank must be removed to get at the fuel pump. I don't believe I have power to the pump. With ignition on I should have 12 volts at the connection to the pump. I jacked up the car and tested the connection from the engine compartment and I don't have 12 volts. I am now looking at the open circuit relay and other relays.

Re: starting problem

You appear correct about it not accessible under the cushion.

Were you able to locate the wiring diagram for this circuit ??

Re: starting problem

Well the answer is not exactly. It seems Chilton has one diagram and what I found on the web have different ones so I must search more. I thought I found one last night on just answer but it shows where the open circuit relay is but it's not there. I will keep at it.

Re: starting problem

I lost my source to manuals a while back

Try looking around, and maybe join toyotanation site.... I found some info there, and maybe someone can hook you up with a schematic.

Re: starting problem

Well so far toyotanation hasn't been any help. It seems everybody has the newer information. I am trying to find a wiring harness diagram so I can follow the wires back from the pump.
