66 El Camino oil pan removal

So I recently bought an el Camino from my uncle that has been in my grandpas barn for about 20 years. I want to remove the oil pan to clean out any sludge that may be in the pan but it looks like the pan is too long to take out without hitting a cross member. I have no way to take the engine out all the way. So would I have to lift the engine to get the oil pan out? If so how high? What else besides the engine mounts would I have to loosen?

Re: 66 El Camino oil pan removal

You will need to remove the distributor cap and set it aside so it doesn't break. You will be needing to lift the engine approx. 3" on either side. A piece of 2x4 about 6" long works well for this. You will have to remove the exhaust system.

Once you lift the engine, you will be able to remove the pan.
