Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Location
Hello Guys,
I recently encountered a problem with my 00' GP SE with 141, 100 miles. I received a trouble code for a malfunction Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid or TCC. I have no idea where this sensor is located on the transmission. I assumed somewhere in the bell housing perhaps. I tried messaging a few well known mechanics on YouTube but someone cared to help or respond back to my inquiry. If anyone of you who is familiar with this issue, please provide your feedback. *Note: General Motors 3.4L/3.1L V6 engines are interchangeable. |

Re: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Location
On driver's side- jack up car, turn steering wheel all the way to the left, remove splash panel, then remove side cover on end of transmission- you'll see the electric solenoid on the left (as you look at it). or just follow the electrical wires from the plug to the solenoid.
Are you sure the solenoid is at fault? Does your engine stall at stop signs after a highway cruise? This is the most common TCC failure mode.

Re: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Location
Thank you for your feedback. I have no idea if the solenoid is at fault. How can I determine that? I noticed there is a leakage near the edge of the transmission pan. I believe the gasket is worn in that isolated area.
The car vibrates noticeably bad when in reverse. The car is slow on the acceleration from stops. |

Re: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Location
As brcidd alluded to, many techs make the mistake that the whenever a codes is set, it must be the part the code is named after.....
That is false.....when a code is set, what causes it to set is anything that is in the circuit with it, or if a sensor, anything that affects the outcome of the sensor....... To diagnose this correctly, you need a scan tool like a Tech II, and you need trouble tree charts.......otherwise, needless parts are replaced.... And as far as removing that side cover to the tranny, it's quite a bit more involved.... |
