Hello,
I have a 2001 Cadillac SLS that will die when I remove the large breather hose to check the transmission. I have another Cadillac that is not affected, both have the 4.6ltr. N/S engine. I cleaned the throttle body. I can stuff a shop towel into the opening and it will run. Thanks Ellis479 |

Re: 2001 SLS Dies when breater hose is removed
I wouldn't worry about it, running the engine with no filtration isn't a good idea anyway. Just keep doing the towel trick.
The only thing can think of would be an airflow sensor reacting to the change in airflow restriction by shutting the engine down. I'm not sure why it would do that, but like I said, it doesn't sound like a big deal.

I wasn't sure what the problem was, since this engine would die when I removed the breather hose and the other engine ran fine. I am not getting any sensor codes or codes of any kind, so I suspect you are right and this is some kind of glitch in the system. I like to keep things checked out and I appreciate your information and help. Thanks Ellis479
