1999 Grand AM GT Starting problem
My grand am recently developed a starting issue that doesnt follow any sort of pattern.
New battery last year, took to shop because it would start ok (but had a weird noise or drag) then sometimes would just click and just rrrrr rrrrr rrrr like it was dead. Then the next day it would start ok, I just never knew from one time to next if it would start so off to the sshop. They changed the battery because they said it looked like it wasnt operating to good level even though it was new to changed free and told me to drive for a few days and see if that stopped the issue. It didnt. Sometimes it would start ok a few times in a row, the 4th time rrrr rrrr rrrr nothing. Let sit over night to take back to shop, started like this. CLick...silence.....vroom. Like a silent hesiation. They said battery and cables are good and that the alternator seems to be testing ok. He said hes leaning towards the starter but sounded like not 100% convinced that was it either. Could it be anything else? |

Re: 1999 Grand AM GT Starting problem
it sounds like a bad starter, not a battery issue. pretty easy to test at their shop, or should be.
if the battery u had was only a year old, i highly doubt it was bad unless you've been charging or boosting it somehow causing it to burn up.

Re: 1999 Grand AM GT Starting problem
Disconnect your injector harness or remove the injector fuse....
Crank the vehicle for 10 seconds......wait 30 seconds......repeat again.....wait 30 seconds.......repeat....... How does the starter crank? With constant speed? Does it slow down? Does it just click? |
