D light malfunctioning on a honda civic

When I'm driving, at random times my D indicator would go off then back on. When the D indicator goes off, the temperature reading also turn off. Sometimes, it would be perfectly fine, but sometimes it would completely stay off for a good 10 mins or so. Anyone familiar with these correlations?

Since the indicator and temp gauge fail at the same time, I'd suspect a loose connection at or inside the cluster.
