Re: dual 312T builds
No till today i did not try it, a few parts are missing to start this one but i think it will be no problem to fix them. Maybe a bit sanding is needed to bring back the fitting of the parts, but this is modeling

that is awesome. anything like that is appreciated. and it's just too bad that there is now shot of the forward section of the actual tub with the cowling / bodywork removed. those are what i am really after. i wonder how similar the later models T2, T3 or T4 are underneath the bodywork and if there are any shots of those cars available. regarding the SMS set. there is a set on ebay at this time selling for 100$, i had been interested in obtaining that set before from that seller, but due to some previous issues, he was not willing to ship it outside the US. that's when i started making paper templates and scale plans to rebuild the tub from aluminium sheets. my intention was (and still is) to rebuild the tub completely and not use the tamiya parts. that's also why i am looking for pictures of the sides without the bodywork since i believe the tamiya part is very sketchy there (but can't really say without having seen the nude chassis/tub). the idea was to use those metal sheets trimmed to match the dimensions of the tamiya parts, make the sheets overlap (much like the actual tub), drill holes in the overlapping areas CA them together and then using scale rivets in those previously drilled holes as an additional bit of strengthening and to replicate the original look. all this would have to be done with rather thin alu sheet - 0.1-0.2mm to be somewhere close to original scale and to still be strong enough to carry the remaining parts without bending/breaking. to the OP. sorry for taking this offtopic |

Re: dual 312T builds
im learning alot! i like the idea of replicating metal and weathering on a plastic canvas so i was fine with the stock parts. plus Tamiya does such an amazing job molding such well built parts it would be a shame to toss them.

Re: dual 312T builds
Hey guys,
Sky1911: The Joe Honda books are the best reference books pants down for the F1 scene of the early years, but unfortunately if you have a series of models to get done there is just not one book that does that particular series of models, you basically have to by a book on each....so the book I have is Ferrari 312T and a small section on the 312T2 from 1975-76 Brabham: I have to agree with you on the Tamiya comment about how good their finishing is they have all ways been good...but...I received Hasegawa's 1/20th of the Ferrari 312T and man is that bad boy packed with styrene and the attention to detail is awesome I think they are coming up behind Tamiya hard and fast and they have alot of after market parts for it. I bought the etch set which comes with everything and the turned ally wheels. I also bought their recent release of the Yamaha YZR500 1988 Marlboro (Eddie Lawson) and when I opened it I nearly fell off my chair....WOW! Only small problem is there are no full Marlboro decals as I guess of cigarette laws and censorship in most countries but TABU Designs have fixed that which I have already purchased.....sorry about being so long winded but if you have an opportunity to see or purchase one of these kits....... do it. |

Re: dual 312T builds
sorry for the crazy crazy long gap here in time. i really haven't done much of anything but wanted to give a small update on how the metalizer and chalk effects were coming along.
really pleased with this technique, and will keep applying it as i go. it does a great job as a cast aluminum as it leaves a small bumpy texture if you don't over buff. so i feel like the engine block will look really nice when i get to it. just need to pick the model back up again...been too long |

Re: dual 312T builds
Wow! The front bulkhead in particular looks like it has been cast in some solid aluminium. Keep going! I love it
