Duratec DOHC engine

My current and previous Taurus had the Vulcan engine.
I am looking at a Taurus with the Duratec DOHC engine.
I do not have any experience with this engine.
It has 108,000 miles. Is this a reliable engine? Any known issues.
Thanks
Steve

Re: Duratec DOHC engine

The Duratech engine is a good engine and runs stronger than the Vulcan. However, with the DOHC comes added cost is things do go wrong. In general though, with proper maintenance the engine will last for thousands more miles.

There are a few things that at known issues with the Duratech, but like most things, those items vary by model year. What year Taurus are you looking to purchase?

Does the seller have any maintenance records for the car, specifically stating when the spark plugs, plug wires (if applicable) and timing belt were replaced? If no specific records, take that in to account when negotiating price. If there's no documentation that those items have been replaced, you may want to consider the price assuming they were NOT recently replaced.

Re: Duratec DOHC engine

Good running engine but keep in mind that you need to remove the intake manifold to replace plugs and wires. The alternator is very difficult to remove and there is a lot of labor involved, just some things to keep in mind
