Completed: Ebbro 1/20th Lotus 72 “Gold Leaf”

A really nice kit which is tricky in places, especially building up the rear suspension.

I used all Tamiya paints, the Studio27 photoetched set and Tabu supplementary decals for the ciggie sponsorship. Also their Union flags and Rindt Roadshow decals are much more detailed than the kits’. Talking of decals, although I painted the red and white, I wish I’d painted the gold too. The Ebbro decals are a bit weird and the large gold parts reacted to the MicroSol/Set making them patchy. Also they didn’t give full coverage, so be aware all of you who are going to make this. Oh yeh I used micro blue masking tape for the seat belts.
Other problems: Ebbro doesn’t include any cabling so I used MFH black and clear for the engine. One of the rear suspension parts was missing one of the location pegs which made the build-up very fragile. The front bulkhead on the front suspension is easy to install incorrectly (I did), and the chrome on the wheels is bad – the rear wheels have a strange patch and it’s coming off the rim.
On the positive side the connection from engine to tub is very secure which means this won’t be drooping any time soon…
Anyway, enjoy!
