Hi there my name is Brittany.
I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee that I adore. I wrecked it when I was pregnant and it kept my child and me safe. I have taken it off roading, raced it, anything a young girl does. I adore my jeep. I honestly feel as if something is missing from me since my jeep has quit. I currently have replaced the spark plugs, new battery, oil/air/fuel filter, oil/transmission/radiator fluid, inner and outer tire rod ends, the stabilizer bar, radiator belt, starter (2x), water pump(2x), thermostat(2x) And the flex plate. When I got the jeep, if had the starting of the death wobble. We fixed that by replacing the inner and outer tire rod ends and stabilizer bar. After that the jeep ran perfect. Then one day I went to replace radiator fluid, and my mother left the house loose so the radiator ran dry. After that when it would run we would have to have the jeep constantly reving. The RPMs kept falling as soon as we would stop. We took the muffler off. After we did that we heard this loud knocking sound. Well we were told to replace the Flex plate. I guess from the death wobble, it shook the flex plate bolts loose. We went in and replaced it, along with the transmission fluid and filter. After that we could not get it to start. As soon as you turn the key you can hear a knocking and it sounds like it wants to start if I would pump the gas, but when I do nothing. Well its been off for a month and today I was having a hard day so I went and sat in my jeep and thought I would try to start it for laughs. Well the battery power was drained to where the stereo won't come on. We replaced the battery but it still won't start. It has 217,000 miles on it. I need help. I love my jeep, but if it needs a new engine I'm out of luck. |

Re: 1996 Jeep Cherokee will not start.
Hi Brittany. Look here for some threads that may help with your starting problem. If it still doesn't start after trying those things, post back with some more detail about what you've done.
