2002 HD transfer case question

It came with the 263hd and after 264,000 has failed from the classic "pump rub"
Now for the tricky question... since we cant afford $1400 for a new one, can I substitute a 261 and get by? I know the 263 is electric shift and the 261 is manual, but can some swaps be done to make it work?

Any chance you can install a case-saver, and get it operable? They can be had for about eighty bucks.

Re: 2002 HD transfer case question

the short answer to my question is no ... i split the case today and sent back half to tig welder. the inside of course is full of grime, sludge and shavings. the planetaries would spin about 1/3 turn and lock up. right now its soaking in the solvent tank and we will see what we have to work with tomorrow.
i was worried about the bearings and planetaries given that it was driven dry and making noise.

its gonna be a wait n see as to what this will cost me!
