First Car Help!
It's almost time for me to start college, and I am going to need a car for commuting. My parents are helping me out with buying the car, and my budget is around $10-12000.
Has to be either a sedan or an suv. Either it has to be very fuel efficient or have a decent amount of power. Has to be an automatic because parents wont let me get manual. Also the less mileage the better!... I was looking at 06-08 ford fusions v6, 2006 saab 9-3/5, automatic subaru wrx, mitsubishi lancers 08, 06-08 dodge chargers Any suggestions/recomendations?? THANKS

They're all nice cars, so it's really up to you, or you could just take the money and get a drop top :-)

Re: First Car Help!
there is plenty of time to get the fancy car that will get the looks but remember your going to college youll be traveling home on weekends and you will want to carry tyour friends at least the ones that dont have wheels, shoot for a civic, camry, sentra, altima is good try not to get that huge engine remember big engine big tuneup costs unless your going to college to be a mechanic a standard 4cyl tuneup will run about 300-400.00 and for a car that is not sporty the tires will be about the same but sporty cars will be about a 100-150 more so its your decision if the car has a v-6 or larger it will have to have a certian size tire on it with a certian speed rating hence the sporty prices, plus the sporty cars do not hold there value especially the saabs if you wreck it most likely it will be totaled you could do some checking on a consumer ratings website about what it will cost to repair it if an accident occurs this will be the most likely senario and your insurance company alot of times will want to total the car even in the smallest accident so you will want a car that holds its value longer they will be the ones that get approval for repair the quickest by your insurance co. cause if they total it then you are out wheels for a while if they fix it then you get a rental and the car gets fixed .you keep wheels the whole time.good luck!!!

Re: First Car Help!
If you haven't chosen yet, I have a few thoughts. First of all, stay away from the subaru. Not because they are bad cars (because they aren't) but your fuel mileage will likely be in the low to mid 20's depending on if it's a turbo model or not. Same thing with the charger, it's going to be a gas guzzler. After all it is a "muscle car". Seems you're going off to college I'd recommend something that will be able to hold all your stuff, so a good sized trunk is probably a good idea. If you decide to get an SUV, be sure you know that they handle differently than a car. They are top heavy and short wheel based so you can't drive them like a race car or you will flip them. The fusion, Saab, or Lancer are good picks but stick with a 4 cylinder or at least non turbo (lancer). I loved my Honda Accord and the 4 cylinder model was zippy enough for me but still got 32 mpg's. Something to consider.

Re: First Car Help!
A ford escape might be good, they're large but not to large and when you fold down the seats you can fit a LOT of stuff, they also make hyrbid ones so you will get good gas mileage. Hope that helps!
