Cool HVAC noise

Greetings.

When I turn on my A/C, I hear a loud noise like something is leaking. It is intermitten and the faster I go, the louder it seems to get. It almost sounds like a leaking air tank. But the A/C works just fine. The noise does appear to be coming from the engine, its really loud when you wind down the windows.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

when the ac compressor is on and you hear noises this means that the compressor has issues. could be the clutch is slipping and may need to be adjusted. check that the gap is .025 in area. if too big this will make noises.. also check the ac belt and tensioner for proper operation.

if this is not the problem then you may have a bad compressor or low refrigerent oil level. check for oil leaks around the compressor/check for proper charge.

post back how you corrected this.

sound issues are hard to figure out.

This sure is a pain the a$$. It doesnt sound like a belt slipping. I checked all the 'easy' stuff. No leaks found. When am idling, their is no sound at all. Only when I am moving. Thats the crazy part.

Since it only happens when moving, could it be a vacuum leak or something with the emmisions?? But everything seems to be workign fine. Just the noise....ugh

now it makes noise when the ac is ON and you are moving . with the ac OFF it makes no noise .

well you got me on that one !

what usually occurs is the exhaust manifold bolts break then you get these noises.. ac has no effect on this failure.......

Re: HVAC noise

E9CAPT,

What year is your Silverado? If you would like for me to check on warranty information, or want for me to check for any open recalls, please send me the last 8 digits of your VIN in a private message on the forum.

Kind regards,
Sarah

Re: HVAC noise

Does it have electronic or vacuum-operated controls? If they are vacuum, there could be a leak in one of the diaphragms that operate the diverter doors.
