2001 ls v8 po302 misfire on cyl 2
Going up a hill this LS started shuddering and misfiring and set the po302 code. A small push on the accelerator sometimes seems to temporarily remedy the issue. This started about a week ago. fuel mileage : 26 mpg highway
Here's the readings I got at idle: Fuel pressure is KOEO - 0 (That's what it read.); KOER - 30. MAF - about 70 LT FUEL TRIM 1 - 5.5 ST FUEL TRIM 1 - STAYS NEGATIVE LT FUEL TRIM 2 - STAYS NEGATIVE ST FUEL TRIM 2 - STAYS NEGATIVE ST FUEL TRIM 11 - STAYS NEGATIVE ST FUEL TRIM 21 - STAYS NEGATIVE O2 1 - NORMAL FLUCTUATES PROPERLY O2 S12 - STAYS ABOVE .500 O2 S21 - NORMAL FLUCTUATES PROPERLY O2 S22 - STAYS ABOVE .500 Not familiar with this vehicle (son's) so any thoughts on would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: 2001 ls v8 po302 misfire on cyl 2
Marginal COPs (Coil-On-Plug ignition coils) are a very well known common problem on these cars. I strongly recommend to you that you replace all eight COPs and all eight spark plugs. If you find oil in any of the spark plug wells, then you also need to replace the valve cover gaskets.
(You could just replace the one COP and plug, but I promise you that several more are marginal and just haven't failed completely yet.) |

Re: 2001 ls v8 po302 misfire on cyl 2
When we pulled the spark plug out we noticed there was a considerable gap in the electrode. So, we replaced the #2 plug and took it for a ride. It didn't even hesitate. He plans to replace all the plugs now (probably original, 102k miles). He'll keep an eye on the coils also now that we know this is an issue. Thansk for all your help.
