Replacing right turn signal socket, car died. Need help ASAP.

I was just now replacing the socket for the front right turn signal on my 2002 Buick Century, using a replacement socket I bought from Part Source.

As I was trying to figure out how to properly reconnect the 3 wires from the old socket to the new socket, at first the display of the radio flickered randomly (my son was in the car and he saw it flickering), then all of a sudden the car just stopped running (I had it running with the right turn signal on so I could visually see when the light was flashing at a normal pace). I asked my son if he shut off the car and he said no. The dash lights were still on though.

I've checked the relay fuses under the hood (including the IGN relay fuses and crank fuse), they aren't burnt out. I've also checked the 10A ignition fuse in the fuse box on the passenger side of the car and it isn't burnt out either.

When I try to start it up, it doesn't try to turn over, it's just dead silence. My turn signals no longer work which is not an issue, as I haven't reconnected the right turn signal, but the dash lights/windshield wipers/radio/power windows works. As I said, the dash lights work, but when I actually turn the key to start it, all the dash lights go out, and I can hear a faint, low humming noise coming from the front of the car.

I need to get the car up and running as I have work at 7am tomorrow morning, so I'm hoping someone here knows how to fix this.

EDIT: I should mention that the car key for the car is one of those stupid security keys, but I'm pretty sure the security system wouldn't prevent the car from starting.

did you check number 2 fuse 40 amp underhood crank fuse?does any of your outside lights work?no crank right?

when you turn key to on position does the lights light up on dash like abs/check engine ect for a bulb check

TURN SIGNAL LAMPS

The front turn signal lamps are made up of the front park/turn signal lamps and rear turn signal lamps. The front turn signal lamps flash with the rear turn signal lamps when a turn is initiated using the turn signal/multifunction lever. The turn signals will operate only with the ignition switch in the RUN position and will not operate during hazard flasher operation.

When the ignition is turned to the RUN position, battery voltage is supplied to the TURN SIGNAL Fuse. Battery voltage is then applied through the turn signal fuse circuit to the turn signal switch. When the turn signal switch is placed in the LH or RH position, voltage is supplied to the hazard lamp/turn signal lamp flasher. The hazard lamp/turn signal lamp flasher supplies a turn signal flasher signal to the turn signal switch. With the turn signal switch in the LH or RH position the corresponding turn signal indicator, rear turn signal, and front turn signal receive the turn signal switch signal and will flash. The front turn signals receive the turn signal switch signal from the turn signal switch via the BCM. The turn lamps are permanently grounded

When I start the car up, the lights on the dash that were on go off. Then, the following lights light up:

- ABS
- Service Vehicle Soon (or Engine Soon, whichever one is above-and-to-the-left of the ABS light)
- That red light that has two circles, one has a P in it, the other has an ! in it.
- I think trac off came on...I don't remember.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, other than maybe the light has to be reconnected for the car to start?

glad you got it figured out.....that fuse protects the body control module.........dont hook up with circuit live especially when modules are involved.

I forgot to update this, but the issue is now solved

Someone in chat had suggested checking the BCP (body control panel) fuse, so I checked it and it was completely burnt out.

Replaced the fuse, and the car started like a charm.

that is great....I was doing the chat thing at the same time and mentioned the bcm providing power through the fused circuit to the turn signal lamp.....I was doing double postings.....

Well then I owe you a beer :P

Now there's only two things left for me to fix in the car:

- Fuel gauge; the damn thing always shows the gas tank as being full, so what I've been doing is resetting the gauge that shows how many kilometers have been driven (not the total amount of kilometers). I usually drive until I hit around 300 - 350 km, then I'll go fill the tank up at the gas station and reset the gauge to 0km.

- Unfortunately, I can no longer use the above method as the light for the Park/Reverse/Neutral/Drive/Overdrive & odometer (I think it's called the odometer, I forget) has apparently burnt out. Every time I throw the car into reverse or drive I have to count the clicks as I pull the lever down :P I saw a video on YouTube of a guy simply pulling the dash cover off via unsnapping some snaps, and he mentioned that there's only around 4 screws to unscrew. This will be fun :P
