with your problem of this seal leaking, how many miles , and what is the engines condition ?

It is possible the crank bearings are worn causing the leak.

I don't have a manual for the 8.1 L ...

Radiator and everything in front of it has to come out. Need a special tool to remove and install crank damper. Need a tool to remove and install new seal. Not an easy job. Best left to someone you trust.

mileage not too high what about the engine condition ?

does the exhaust blow out oil smoke ...how long does it take for the oil to get black after an oil change ?

no smoke at all from the engine at start up nor under loads. oil gets black around 500-700 miles after change... rough estimate since it's been awhile since i kept track of when it turns black.

oil pressure of 40-50 at highway speeds, but has dropped a bit with a noticeable increase in the amount of oil that is leaking out.

if the oil pressure at idle is less than 20psi, oil turns black at 500miles, and you have oil in the exhaust this is usually a well worn engine and the crankbearings worn will allow the crankshaft to move too much causing leakages at the seals..a new seal will reduce this , but may not stop it..
