98-02 Acura & Infiniti: Question about Miles
Hi everyone. Newbie here.
Looking to buy a used sedan for my girl and I to have here in Brooklyn. She requires only dependable basic transportation. I want that plus some performance. We'll spend about $4k and almost definitely buy from a private seller. Looking at Infiniti I30 and Acura RL/TL from 99 to 01 mostly. Regarding mileage, what number starts to scare you guys? Most of what I've seen ranges from 90k (which sounds great) to 125k (kinda high) to 150k+ (scares me off). We'll probably keep the car two years and put 25k on it. I'll do the best I can to gauge how the car's been used and maintained, but do you guys suggest a rule of thumb about when the risk of these things breaking down increases? Thanks in advance, Dan |

Re: 98-02 Acura & Infiniti: Question about Miles
In your price range miles means nothing, present CONDITION is all that matters,,, my point is a vehicle with 150K can be in much better condition than same vehicle with half the mileage.
As for you doing the best to gauge how a vehicle has been maintained, comes down to a little homework on your part, you can start with edmonds.com an excellent site that I rate high and associated with when buying a used vehicle besides my own site buying a used vehicle good luck.

Re: 98-02 Acura & Infiniti: Question about Miles
Acura RL's are very nice cars. If it was taken care of properly 200,000 miles is nothing. I'd rather buy a maintained 200,000 mile Honda/Acura than one with 75,000 miles that was not maintained properly. Maintenance is EVERYTHING! The TL's are nice too but have MAJOR trans issues. I would steer clear if possible.
