Convert OBD1 to OBD2

What does it take to convert my 1994 Chevy Suburban 2500 4WD 5.7 from OBD1 to OBD2.

I would like to use DashCommand with my iphone and other software to view real time dashboard data on a 19" flat screen but the best software options are for OBD2 Systems.

Also, I have a PCM from a 1996 Chevy Impala SS that was reprogramed for a cooler tstat and a different rear end. Could this PCM be used for the conversion and if so what modifications would I have to make to it to facilitate the Suburban (4wd)

Re: Convert OBD1 to OBD2

You would need new engine and all new engine sensors and solenoids and transmission and transfer case and all cab and engine and transfer case and transmission wiring and new VCM.
Also exhaust system withthe different 02 sensors and fuel pumpin tank and gas tank may be different.
The impala PCM will not work on a truck and is illegal if been reprogramed even if it would.

Have you considered just trading trucks for what you want?

I agree! MAJOR JOB! With all of the hours of labor involved and the thousands of dollars in parts you'll need, you could buy a 1996 or newer vehicle that already has OBDII, and spend less money.

Re: Convert OBD1 to OBD2

With an OBD I system, there's less codes, rules, and emission laws.
These old school car's + trucks are cheaper to maintain for parts + service.

Well I'm bit sure about all this. There is tons of wire conversion kits online, I remember one specifically for camaro on top hit in google for obd 1 to obd 2 conversion so seems odd I would need to do allll of that. As far as emissions, we don't have emission checks in Florida
