2000 Explorer XLS keyless entry
Hey there!
My remote would only unlock my doors when standing about a foot from my truck. Changed the batteries and that didnt work. I finally got a replacement remote thinking the other was shot but after programming it it too would only work if i was standing beside the truck. Is my module fried? is there an antenna? As much as I can find on the net... the module is under the drivers seat? Where? I just switched out my old seats for some way nicer electric ones from an XLT and didnt see anything under the seats! Help? Insight? |

Re: 2000 Explorer XLS keyless entry
Welcome to the forum!
I'm not sure where you read that the module was under the driver's seat. There have been a few locations for the module over the years, but I don't think any were under the seat. On your 2000, the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module is located in the left (driver's side) rear of the truck, behind the interior trim panel aft the rear seat. I have read of others having range issues with the keyless system, many have tried new fobs without luck, but I'm not sure I've ever seen someone post if and how they got theirs working again. If it were my vehicle, I'd pull the RAP module and resolder the antenna connection at the circuit board, check the electrolytic and ceramic capacitors, and probably reflow all of the joints while I was in there. -Rod |
