94 Explorer code problems
Hi I have a 94 Ford Explorer 4X4, 4L engine, for a will now my check engine light come on will diving then goes out after a couple of minutes now its happening more often. plus I'm getting a no start at times when this happens I noticed that the check engine light does not come on when I turn the ignition to the on position if I wait a few minutes It will come on and it will start. The no start happens maybe once a week, the code I got are. 543,181, 186, 189, 214. What I was wondering could it be the ecm its self or a dad connection to it. If any one can help me with this problem.

Re: 94 Explorer code problems
I guess the first thing you should try is to remove the battery cables and clean them, then reinstall making sure they are secure. Also check the battery, both for voltage and under load.

Re: 94 Explorer code problems
The engine cranks over good, but when the check engine light doen't come on when I first turn the ignition to the on position I don't hear the fuel pump running, if I turn off the ignition and wait a few minutes and turn it back to the on position the fuel pump will start if the check engine light comes on. It never dies on me when its running, only thing is the check engine light comes on for a few minutes then goes out will driving, it comes on more often now. I checked the fuel pressure its steady 40psi, I checked it when I had a no start and there was no fuel pressure.

Re: 94 Explorer code problems
Have you looked up the codes to see what appears consistent between them? Based on the codes, I'd check the Camshaft Position Sensor and Crankshaft Position Sensor to see if they are providing a signal. Have you checked for spark when the engine won't start? You have codes for lean conditions, injector pulse width, cylinder identification, and a fuel pump open. Nothing though that would suggest to me a problem with the ECM, in fact, quite the contrary. The ECM seems to understand exactly what's not working correctly.

Re: 94 Explorer code problems
No I haven't checked for spark when I have a no start condition, but I will when it happens again.
