Whirring noise under the hood when you turn the ignition on. Seems to be coming from top of engine near rear firewall on drivers side.
Continues whenever you sit at an idle. Seems to be getting more frequent. Happening for 2 months. What could cause this.

Ignition on = engine may not be not running - if so, only possible noise is short circuit at ABS pump, cooling fan, Cruise ctrl pump (alas not near firewall). Pull fuses to check. Idle = engine running. Typical whirring noise is power steering pump and/or belt. If noise comes from inside engine, top drivers side, there are only valves. Outside engine (?), maybe vacuum leak noise? Needs some acute action like openin the hood. First buy 7$ stethoscope - listen, locate, search...
