CD Initializing - Won't play or eject
2004 Z71 with Bose and 6-CD Radio
Put in a CD bought from the store into the CD slot and loaded as #6 CD, as I have done many times before. Unit sucked the CD as usual in but does not recognize the CD. Now, it displays the message "Initializing" and the little CD icon blinks for about 5 min and then stops. The display does not show that I have a 6th CD loaded. The really bad part is it also won't eject either the "bad" CD or any other CD. I can only play the radio. I don't see any obvious manual eject button, slot, hole, etc. Any thoughts or ideas will be appreciated. Right now I am looking at : 1. Dealer ($$$$) 2. New Unit ($$) - although I imagine install will NOT be straight forward. Thanks in advance. |

I would dump the cd and get a unit that plays mp3 and has , the other inputs that is up to date. these will cost much less than this old out dated cd equipment. |

Re: CD Initializing - Won't play or eject
Certainly would be nice to have an iPod ready stereo. So right now here is what I am doing:
1. Disconnect to batt for a while, reconnect and see if resetting stuff helps. 2. Look for good understandable procedures for installing an aftermarket radio in this truck. This truck has On Star and I am sure that uses the radio for stuff. It is also the Bose setup so I am sure there are amps and stuff between radio and speakers. 3. If I can find #2 then I think I will get a good new unit. Thanks |

also do not buy a gm unit on the internet to replace this OEM that failed. these have in most cases been locked and it is almost impossible to unlock a locked GM OEM unit. |

I have had to clean the laser lens on many a cd/dvd over the years. vehicles get exposed to ample amounts of dust especially in farm country or desert . see if you can remove and open this unit up to expose the lens of the laser. then using denatured alcohol and a cotton/or better a sponge swab gently with a small amount of alcohol wipe down the lens "gentle". then there is the possiblity that the cd is messed up.try making a copy and see if the copy cd works. |

Re: CD Initializing - Won't play or eject
j_cAT - Thanks for the comments.
UPDATE: I disconnected the batt for about 30 min. Plugged back in and turned on the radio, I was hopeful because the radio first said no CD's were loaded then it indicated all 6 slots were loaded (didn't indicate slot 6 before) - then I pressed eject and its message was "EJECT ALL" - I thought, great, eject them all, but nothing came out and now it indicates only slots 123 56 are full. Now it does same as before behavior - Initializing, not playing, and not ejecting. I will probably give the battery thing another try. |

I have cleaned my 1996 impala and the 2000 silverado . not that difficult.. just never worked on your setup with the 6 cd's in a vehicle. |
