Last weekend our van started missing. I took it to the shop and they said it was missing on 5 cylinders. They replaced the EGR and the coil on #4. The problem went away. Now a week later it looks like the same problem. The plugs were just changed also. (after the misfires). So could the coils be bad? I'm not paying the garage $110 to change them when I can do it for half that. Is it worth fixing the coils before I take it back in to the shop? Any other ideas?

when you say they replaced the EGR, do you mean the valve? if so did they clean the EGR passages too? chances are the valve was only part of the problem, nearly all of them need the passages in the intake and down to the valve cleaned out.

Its very common in our dealership and we sell it as a package type thing, if we replace the valve we do the clean too, otherwise we usually wont do it (it always comes back anyway)

Honda's are sensitive to aftermarket parts aswell, I would only use honda EGR valves and Honda coil's. anything else, even sparkplugs, can cause them to miss and such.


cleaning the egr ports can be done in the drive way by a skilled person, it does require taking the upper intake off.
