gas evap leak

Well I sold the 1996 and bought a 1999 with only 84,000 miles.
The eng. light came on and it was scanned as major a evaporative system leak.
I was wondering, are the gas caps known to go bad on these?
Thanks.

You are correct. Mine has many cracks around the filler opening.
I need to look at what is involved in replacing it and try that.
Thanks
