Are either of these a better bet

Considering a couple of used 325's. Have not checked out either in person yet but will very soon. One is 1989 325i with 189K on odometer but engine replaced last year with one with only 30k on it, it is 5 speed. No radio but no reported problems.

Other is 1986 325e with 150K, it is auto. Owner says all runs well but 'small whinning at low speed from the back' He has had differential checked and is ok. Needs power window motors replaced. Has all maint. records

Body conditions look about the same from pics of both, 1986 might be a bit nicer paint job (hard to tell).

89 is $1900 86 is $1650 (OBO on both)

Never had or driven a 325 or bmw. Any thoughs or opinions on either would be appreciate or what to look for when I check out.

Re: Are either of these a better bet

I've owned two 3 Series BMWs and lived in Ohio (Yellow Springs) for several years. The cars are fast and fun to drive. Low ground clearance and rear wheel drive aren't ideal for Ohio winters, but you already knew that.

My BMWs have been reliable, but realize before you buy that repairs are complicated ... and expensive. For example, I recently replaced the windshield washer pump on our 325Ci ... a simple DIY job. Parts cost before tax was $89.
