97' tahoe...code P0197

hey all, my 97' 5.7 L just threw the code P0197. From what I've found it means the engine oil temperature sensor is low voltage, whatever that means??? Whats my next step in fixing this and also, what does that code mean? thanks in advance for any help.

Re: 97' tahoe...code P0197

OBD11 code or engine capable scanner code?
Clear code and see if it comes back.
Confirm code no.
Sensor low voltage describes the code.
Check and make sure it does have a engine oil temperature sensor.
I do not see one on a 5.7.
Do not get confused with the transmission temp sensor.
If code come back check wiring and plug in to sensor and
get it on a engine capable scanner and read out the sensor to see how sensor is working.

Re: 97' tahoe...code P0197

Looking thru my '98 C/K factory manual, I see no reference to a P0197 at all. This includes B, C, P & U codes.

Recheck the code and post back.
