My problems started a couple of years ago. Sometimes when I'm at a redlight my engine will bog down and the truck will try to lunge forward slightly. Other times it would not go back into 1st when starting from a stand still. Like the torque converter was acting crazy. Anyway, that has been a slight problem but not too bad. Yesterday, while on interstate, it would not shift into overdrive. I stopped, turned truck off, and restarted, it worked fine for about 10 miles then started slipping real bad. I could feel the trans shift through the gears but the truck had no power. The check engine light was on and flashing. Is this the torque converter and some type of sensor?

Re: 1997 1500 trans problems
My Olds Bravada trans slipped like that. I changed the trans fluid & filter to fix it.
You might drive to a chain type auto parts store and get a free diagnostic scan after the fluid & filter change.
