Geo starting problem

ok i swaped a bad 1.0L engine out for a lower mileage one now the car wont start battery is good all electrical connectors are plugged in car has electrical power when you turn the key u can hear a faint clicking noise but only once the starter was checked by advance auto and they said it was good any help would be great

you say all elec connectors are good but specifically check all the ground connections to the engine. try carefully jumping a ground wire to the starter body.

You need all the sensors, etc. from the original engine, some things changed without looking different, especially the distributor. If your car is newer than 94, you need a crankshaft sensor between the oil pan and the accessory drive pulley. As redpepe said, the main ground underneath the intake manifold is missed by many when changing engines.

Oh, maybe I'm answering a question that wasn't asked, now that I re-read, it sounds as if it doesn't even crank. There's a shim on some starters that keeps the gear teeth aligned properly, and automatics have a different starter than manuals.
