2001 Grand Am no reverse

I have an '01 Grand Am that will not do anything when I put it in reverse. It will move forward. Is there a possible fix without pulling the transaxle?

sorry to disappoint you but nothing without removing trans. You can check fluid at least, it is on of the possible causes from the list.

First, check all of your fuses.

Check if the wiring going to the transmission got damaged or disconnected.

Have the code scanned.

The transmission is controlled by the PCM.

Re: 2001 Grand Am no reverse

reverse clutch - not applying or slipping
piston and seal assembly - binding, cracked or leaking
inner seal - plugged orifice
clutch plates - worn friction or broken splines
snap ring- out of position
housing retainer and ball assembly - missing or out of position
springs-binding
reverse clutch fluid routing - fluid leak or restriction
driven sprocket support - leaking seal rings
Channel plate and gasket, and valve body gaskets and channel plate - porosity, fluid leak across the channels, misalignment, damage or fluid restriction
low and reverse band and servo - no apply or slipping
servo piston seals - leaking
servo pina and springs - binding
servo cover-broken, loose or leaking
low and reverse band - broken, worn or out of position
anchor pin - broken
fluid feed tubes - broken, bent, or plugged, missing or leaking seal rings
transmission case-porosity, fluid leak, or restriction
shift linkage-disconnected or misaligned
manual valve and link - disconnected or misaligned
#1 check ball- missing (no low band fluid)
fluid level - low
Fluid pressure low

all of them sound internal.............. But the smartest thing wound be as Phantom1492 said check for trans codes and post them here...

Re: 2001 Grand Am no reverse

Welcome to AF pb440 !

What engine and how many miles on this GA ??

As stated before get the fluid level checked, since thiers no dip stick to check it your self. And it wouldnt hurt to look at the undercarraige to see if its been leaking.

Most free scans wont show any trans codes, most shops can check for them.

I'd say its posibly low fluid. For the simple fact it drivers forward & the 1st gear & reverse use the same bands.
It Could also just be the shift soleniod(s), that does require the trans dropped to replace soleniods. Which a scan should pick up if it was the problem.

You can just try and add about 1/2 quart of GM trans fluid and see if that changes anything.

And 3100, that pdf is for a 4L60E/65 , the grand ams have 4T60/65E a tottaly different trans and problems.
