Power Steerig Pump

Need to do a number of things to the #15 GTRA. While I am changeing/replacing some of the braided lines I am thinking I would like to replace the existing power steering pump. I would like to go to something that has less boost in hopes of gaining better steering feel. Has anyone changed their power steering pump on the car and if so, which one did you use?

Maximum Motorsports has a package. http://www.maximummotorsports.com/st...dex&cPath=3_10

I don't really seem to have any problems with the current set up. I added the extender tube to the fill neck.

Re: Power Steerig Pump

I went with a manual rack - bout as much feel as you need.

Have any of you guys actually done track days w/ the manual rack? Everything I've read says people would rather deal w/ the overboosted feel than the effort of the manual rack in race conditions. Most of the the FFCobra guys stick with powersteering.

Brian, my last car was a similar weight to the Panoz but with slightly more weight over the front axle. It had 275 Hoosiers on the front and a manual "quick" rack. While it was very direct and great for sprint racing, I would not have wanted to race it for an extended period on a tight track. You would not need to hit the gym very often if you raced regularly enough as it would give you a good workout....!!

If you are not happy with the current set up, might be a good start to try one of the restrictor kits available (have seen them on the net but cant remember company name) prior to replacing the whole rack.

Kel.

Re: Power Steerig Pump

Charlie - call these guys for either power or manual quick steer (20:1 ratio manuals) :

Re: Power Steerig Pump

I suggest you to consult an expert, on that way you will resolve the issue and get the proper instruction for maintenance.

Re: Power Steerig Pump

Um... ignoring those last two posts.... the issue isn't the steering rack... it's the fact that the stock mustng pump is overboosted for the light weight Panoz.

I think the Maximum Motorsports kit might be a good option. Kel the restrictor valve kit is caled a Heidt's valve.

Our stock pump is starting to whine at higher rpms so I think it's on a death march.

Re: Power Steerig Pump

+1 for the manual rack, I have done several track days with the car and it feels good, as kel stated, i wouldn't want to run a 4hour enduro but its fine for sprint races 20-40 minutes easily.

Before that i went with a 2004 cobra rack it was a quicker ratio than the racks we use and has less lash for a tighter feel. It was NIGHT AND DAY better than the stock rack used in my car.
