2002 Monte Oil Pressure gauge going up
I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS. Over the weekend I noticed that when I am sitting still my oil pressure guage sits right in the middle but when I speed up the pressure goes up until it is 3/4 of the way to high. Is this normal? Have I just not noticed this before? Also over the last few days once in a while it feels like it cuts out a little. I was sitting at a stop light one day and it just started chugging, I put it in neutral and it came out of it and has never done it since, but I didn't know if all of this was connected in some way or not.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks |

Re: 2002 Monte Oil Pressure gauge going up
I think its normal for the gauge to show increased pressure when your accelerating...My 2002 Monte SS does exactly the same thing especially more so during the summer when i run a little thicker oil in the oil pan just for the summer months...I see no problem or issue there with your oil pressure.

Re: 2002 Monte Oil Pressure gauge going up
Thanks for posting. I was wondering if I just never noticed before. I also drive a Ford Explorer and that has never done it and my dad has a Dodge Ram and that doesn't do it, so then I got to wondering why this one would, but assumed it had probably always done it.
The chugging I found out was not part of the problem, I have an idler pully going bad I guess. Just thought I'd let you know. |

Re: 2002 Monte Oil Pressure gauge going up
I don't know why the oil pressure gauges in your other vehicles don't show an increase in pressure while increasing RPM's....every vehicle that i owned which had an oil pressure gauge always went up and down according to RPM's....maybe the other vehicles that don't show any movement have bad pressure sensors or sending units and do not show the fluctuation of oil pressure.....Our Monte's oil pressure gauges are working correctly.....you only worry when they don't show pressure and in that case the engine will not run because the PCM will shut down the fuel pump and not allow the engine to run with very low pressure or no oil at all...Hope this helps......
