2004 jetta 1.8t thermostat location

I have an '04 Jetta 1.8t Is the thermostat almost behind the alternator? would I have to remove the alternator to get to the thermostat housing?

It would be the easist way to get to themostat by removing the alternator. But if you have small hands and a swivel socket extension with your socket wrench you can manage it. Hope this helps.
