02 Caravan replace rear emergency brakes with disc brakes
Hi All
I have an 02 Grand Caravan and when I was changing my Snow Tires last month, I noticed the Brakes pads were low so I went to change them today and my Emergency Brake was dragging. I could not get the lever to move towards the rear - release direction so I took the Emergency Brake Shoes off. I had trouble getting the 2 "pull in" springs that were behind the shoes (1 lower and 1 upper), now I can't get them back on while holding the Shoes in place - Is there a trick or Link/ Video I can go to to see how to Replace the Rear Emergency Brake Shoes. Thanks Timmy from Connecticut |

Re: 02 Caravan replace rear emergency brakes with disc brakes
02 Caravan 126,000 mi w/ 4 wheel disc brakes, replace rear emergency brake shoes/ hardware.
As an update, I worked on them again last night and I got the upper/ inner spring on. First, I found the Actuating Lever was Rusted/ Frozen in the "applied" position and my Brake Shoes were worn - that took some time to get the Rotor off. I removed the Brake Lever and worked it loose with PB Blaster and WD40 and got it freed up. I was trying to install the FWD shoe first. That did not allow me enough room to access the spring so I started with the back shoe first and could get behind the FWD shoe with a pair of duck bill pliers and hook the spring into the front shoe. Now I will be able to finish installing the parts and be on my way. Check to see if the Emergency Brake Cable has any play behind the backing plate and that the lever can move, mine did not and that had to be fixed first. Timmy from Connecticut |
