I want a hatchback style car. But every car I choose I get mixed ideas about if they are good or not. I am also not spose to buy a car under the year 2000 D:
I love the VW Golfs and GTI's, the body is awesome looking.
I like Honda Hatchbacks but not the newer years. Like 90s to 1997.
I kinda like the Rio 5 Kia. BUT I heard and thought they are crap cars.
What to do! What car should I get? Should I get used or new? I am wanting to spend around 10 g more or less. Also I need automatic
Thanks.

My wife drove a '97 Jetta and, even though she drives a brand-new car now, still talks about that old VW. It had it's share of problems but it was a gem to drive. If you're the kind of person who can tolerate a few squeaks and rattles for a great car, look for a 2000-2003 GTI with the 1.8T or VR6 motor. They have an awesome stereo, hug the road and are a blast to drive.
If you prefer not to tolerate a few annoyances and want the reliable route, I'm a big fan of Mazda hatchbacks. I drive a 2003 Protege5 and love it, and if you've got the budget, the 2004+ Mazda 3's are even better.
If you're serious, line up a few test drives and don't listen to anybody but your mechanic. Go with your gut and find something that's in good shape, and you're golden. Let the drive tell you what to buy.
