2003 Accord 4-cyl will not crank but fixed itself

A couple of days ago the wife's Accord would not crank at all. Next day after trying several attempts turning the key to start, the 4th or 5th time it cranked and quickly started. She tried numerous time before with no results. Since then it's started over a dozen times OK. The green key light comes on along with all the other dash lights when the key is first turned but what is unusual, the maint req'd light also blinks a few times before going out. After turning the ignition off, the key light blinks a few times. My concern of course is that the car won't crank in the near future. My research has indicated that the key is not communicating well with the immobilizer and that the only fix is the dealer. Any other thoughts? Thanks. BTW, all indications are that the battery is strong. Since I do not drive the car much, I am not sure if the key light indications are normal but I think they are not.

Blinking green key is how the system works. At least on mine 99.

Make sure battery terminals are not loose. If they are OK it may be the ignition switch problem. If it is, you will most likey encounter it again.

Thanks. Someone else mentioned the ignition switch to me. Since the "key light" indications are OK plus I had the same symptoms (initially) with my different key, that pretty much rules out a problem of the key communicating with the immobilizer. I note that many had intermittent starting problems due to the main relay being faulty. However, I think at least it cranked with that problem (?) I'll check the battery connections but doubt that is the problem.

Re: 2003 Accord 4-cyl will not crank but fixed itself

I had a similar problem with my automatic '91 MR2.

I would turn the key and nothing would happen. All the electrics would turn on like normal, but nothing from the engine. I would leave it alone for a little bit, give it another go and it would start like normal.

I took it into the dealership and they said it was a worn neutral safety switch. They installed a new one and the problem was gone. I know it has been awhile from your original post and you could have got it fixed already. But I thought I would share my similar experience.
