68 chevelle steering column
Went to a swapmeet today and found a steering column that look's to be the same as mine! While taking it back to the truck I ran into a fellow that told me that the column was out of a 67 camaro!
He thought that the inside componets would interchange with mine although, because the lower ends of the shaft are differant! Anyone know if the shift lever collar off the camaro would fit on the chevelle housing?

Re: 68 chevelle steering column
Is Jefferson open already? I always miss the spring meet.
The die cast parts should interchange, even on a tilt unit. The shift tube, outer jacket, upper bowl, and steering shaft will be different, however.

Re: 68 chevelle steering column
Thank's Blue Bowtie, Jefferson was pretty good Friday! I built a clamp to hold everthing together on the steering column and took the top snap ring off, Then I pulled the 67 steering shaft and reversed with my 68. I couldn't believe how easy that was!!
Plus, The backup lights work, and the neutral switch work's perfect without adjusting!! Bolted right in, Look's good111Thank's again for the info. Larry |
