1997 Sebring Convertable EGR or Distributor

2.5 ltr. All of the obvious (I beleive) have been adressed (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, pcv valve, air filter)It is showing no DTC's either. It idles very well no fluctuation in RPM. At closed throttle idle is good, if you open quickly it stutters and sounds like multiple missfires. Very rich fuel smell out of the exhaust. If you bring the it from idle to 50% or more slowley it runs fine. If you keep it above 15-1800 on the tack there is no hesitation at all either. Could this be (A) The EGR or (B) the distributor? Any input would be greatlly appreciated.

Re: 1997 Sebring Convertable EGR or Distributor

Having the exact same problem with my daughters car just got to keep it over 2k on the tach to run well. Replaced all the things you did and finally got an "EGR Sytem Leak (large)" code to pop up. Gonna trace all the tubing and connections but pretty sure yours is the same issue. These cars won't give sensor codes until everything else in the system is perfect.

Re: 1997 Sebring Convertable EGR or Distributor

I'm having the same problem with my 2000 Sebring. Has anyone figured this out. So far I have checked the fuel pressure and changed the fuel filter, dropping the fuel tank was no fun. I also removed the O2 sensor in front of the catalic converter to test if the converter was plugged. None of these helped with the problem. Next I was going to replace the crank position sensor. Please let me know if you fixed the problem with your cars and how you did it. I also have no codes when I checked with a code scanner.
