I was told that the issues I'm about to explain are due to a shot alternator, but when i looked up what happens when you have a bad alternator, not all of my problems were there.
I was driving and my battery light came on. After awhile of driving back to my house, my abs, air bag and brake and no traction lights came on. Then i noticed my inside lights started to dim and my headlights were barely visible. Everytime I would step on my brake my radio would stop working, but the minute i let go it started working. Also, as I was driving, my car started kicking as i started up, and all of the needles for my speed, gas, temp, all of them went down and wouldn't work and I had no idea what speeds I was doing. I turned the radio off and tried to fix my lights and everytime I played with the turner, all of the car's symbol lights would come on. Finally, as i was turning at the bottom of my street the steering wheel began to lock and then in the middle of the road my car shut off and would not begin to work...We jumped my car several times and it kept dying...Is this due to a bad alternator or is it something else? |

Re: 99 Pontiac Grand am issues
Welcome to AF
sounds like a faulty alternatoer to me, get it tested and test the battery also after it is recharged. |

Re: 99 Pontiac Grand am issues
This is certainly an alternator issue. The lights came on when the voltage began to decrease due to the battery being drained. I would expect that you will find the alternator will need to be replaced. Recharge the battery before you install the new alternator as you will damage it if you don't.
