I might modify this a bit. Virtually all pushrod engines have chains (and a very few had gears) including plenty of 4 cyl pushrod engines.

For overhead cam engines, generally the larger, premium engines have chains, such as Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac etc. The smaller and/or cheaper engines tend to have belts.
