Just to reiterate what I have said before, I LIKE driving diesels, but I hate driving BEHIND diesels <cough,cough>....
That being said, I am all for a move to high tech, ultra-low emissions diesels because the availability of realistic alternatives to gasoline engines makes things better for everyone.
