Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

By won't start, do you mean that it cranks and doesn't fire, or it doesn't crank at all?

IF it doesn't crank, you could have a SECURITY problem....there is a purple wire going to the starter solenoid......it should have powerTest with a test light, not a voltmeter) with the key in the crank position.....if it doesn't, try starting in neutral(apply e-brake)......If you do have power, bad starter....yes, rebuilts can be bad....

Not sure if this vehicle has PassLock or PassKey III....your owner's manual will tell you this......if you have PassKey III, turn key to on(don't try to crank)....the SECURITY light should come on for 3 seconds and go out.....if it stays on or flashes, you have a theft deterrent problem....

PassLock is different....the SECURITY light will stay on constantly, with key on.....it will only go out once the vehicle has started...if it is flashing, obviously there is a problem.....

A scan tool would show probably a B2958 or B2960.....but most scan tools out there can't read "B" codes......

There is a starter enable relay that could be bad...could try swapping with another relay......not much else a DIY'er can do, without a premium scan tool.....

Was a remote starter or alarm ever installed in the vehicle?
