ALL used car dealer should let you bring to a mechanic.
Call them to ask before moving. Tell them: if you don't let me, I don't buy.
All 06-07 certified dealer provides extended warranty.
I don't think you need more than 1 year warranty for a 06-07 Toyota.
My father bought a used 06 matrix 1.5 years ago, he just got to change the PCM (200$ repair covered) up to now.

There's not a lot to check in a 06-07 toyota. They don't need to check compression for example. Just gas filter, alternator, pulleys, tires, suspensions, steering... just simple things. Any mechanics can check it w/o damaging it. When you'll drive it, you'll feel if there's other anormality.

I advise you highlander as SUV.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.
