Re: Everyone's car history

Not a bad idea for a thread. Not sure how much attention or responses it will get but I will participate. My list is a little longer, so I will try not to be too wordy.

Learned how to drive in a 87 Dodge Omni. It was manual so I learned that at the same time. When it came to taking my driving test I borrowed my uncle's 90ish Chrysler Lebaron.

My first car was a 75 Chevy Monza. It had been my dad's DD for a year or so. We moved my Ohio back to PA and it came with us. My mom drove it for awhile and I think it ran out of oil on her and locked up. It sat here in PA for the year we lived in Washington and continued to sit until I was given ownership of the car. I found a replacement engine for dirt cheap and did everything to get it back on the road. I drove it for about 3 months, then wrapped it around a telephone pole, ripping it into two pieces.

I went without my own car for a few months after that, and just drove whatever my parents had available when needed. After I started making some money I found an 85 Bronco II at a used car lot. It was lifted (body lift), with 31/10.50's, nice sawblade wheels and was bright yellow. It got dubbed "The Magic Schoolbus."

Hunting season came around, and as I pulled into the field behind my dad another truck coming out the tram road stops to talk to my dad. He jumps out, runs back to my Bronco, tells me to get out that there is a dozer on fire and the operator is trapped inside. (They were doing a reclamation on the land, that is why a dozer was there)

He takes off out the road and as he takes a curve the Bronco started sliding sideways, he tried to correct, but it caught a rut and did a barrel roll. It flipped about 1 1/2 times in the air and came down on the passenger side. Thankfully he was okay, but the Bronco wasn't as lucky.

Since my dad wrecked it he basically let me have free reign over there Pontiac Sunbird he had just bought.

I drove it until I found a 87 Dodge Shadow that needed work for dirt cheap.

Drove it for awhile and found a clean 4 cylinder 86 Mustang for a nice price.

In the meantime work was going into "reviving" the Magic Schoolbus. I was making a lot of money (for a 20 year old in 2000) so I was able to buy the stuff needed to make it even better. Bought a suspension lift, fender flares, paint, etc and it was again an attention grabber.

Unfortunately one day at work, while driving from one location to another it shot a fireball out the exhaust and was dead in the water.

The Mustang was driven met a death by rearending a loaded triaxle at about 50 mph.

After that I bought a 93 Eclipse. Drove it for a year and sold it to my brother when I bought my Stealth.

The Stealth didn't look anything like my sig when I got it in 2002. I actually still have the Stealth, but it currently looks like this

At one point when the Stealth was down for one reason or another I picked up a 93 Talon TSI.

I drove it for awhile. It leaned out on me when racing a Cobalt SS. It was still drivable, but there was definitely an issue with the rings. A few months later I went to shift gears and was blocked out of 3rd and 4th. I picked up an engine on eBay in New Jersey and found a transmission more local and put them both in at the same time. A month or so later the ECU fried.

I parked it and put the Stealth back on the road. Money got tight and I sold the Talon a few months after that.

The Stealth started transforming into what the sig pic looks like. Then I took it to the track and after about 7 runs I got bad wheel hop and broke the original transmission at 155k miles. Put another trans in it and started throwing the coilovers and solid mounts at it. Took it to the track 3 months later and broke that transmission on the very first launch it ever saw.

Called a friend of mine and made a deal with him and we cobbled together a transmission with used parts he had and other parts I had. There was something we missed when we put it back together because I had no 4th or reverse. I dealt with it for 10 months until one day for no reason yet another differential ate itself.

In that period I had already picked up a Quaiffe differential and some more used trans parts so I put together an "indestructible" transmission. Unfortunately while the stronger differential let spin the tires without fear of breaking it, putting it into 2nd under spin and power shredded 2nd gear.

I actually drove it with no 2nd until I acquired another transmission. I didn't have the time to pull the transmissions apart and put the Quaiffe into the good one so it just went in stock. One day while driving home from work I noticed the shifting was notchy. I got home and inspected and sure enough, for no reason the differential had let go and I lost all my fluid.

I went and bought my 07 Grand Prix that weekend. It is basically stock other than the hood, spoiler (stock GXP spoiler), ZZP 3" downpipe and custom 4" intake. I hit 181k miles the other day.

I'm looking to replace in some time next year.
