I always thought the base gasket was a vac leak.....
Just as a double check, spray carb cleaner at the base and see if it affects idle.....if you have access to a scan tool, check IAC counts.....if zero, the PCM has closed the IAC, because of high idle, usually due to a vac leak..........if above zero, then we have another problem.....
