Lightbulb Spiral Cable/Clock Spring replacement.

I replaced the spiral cable or "clock spring" in my 2008 scion xB with an after market version and found that it was absolutely unnecessary to do so. Now, I have an airbag light on and I have the old clock spring still and I want to put it back in because I can't afford to buy a new OEM clock spring. I'm worried that I am going to break it if it's not wound back up correctly when I put it in. I know the simple thing to do would be to just get a new one and I know that it's not my only option because I have found refurbished clock springs online before so someone winds them back up and sells them again. I guess I should just take the cheap one out to see how many spins it goes one way or the other. There's nothing wrong with the old clock spring I just deduced that it was an issue at the time. Lesson learned. I just want to know if anyone knows how to make sure it's ticked back to the position it needs to be in so I don't break the cable when I turn my steering wheel? Thanks.
