I did a experiment when the car died on me the last time ,I pulled out the fuel pump relay and tried to start the car it took a few cranks but she started giving out a lot of black smoke.
I live in India and have no access to a service center or dealer and till date managed to look after the car with help and advice from people over the net.I would be highly grateful if someone could advice me as to where I should start looking for the problem

I think the problem is finally solved the car seems to be running fine for the moment. The culprits were Ue 74605 Thermal switch acu 45 C,Ue 74606 coolant temp transmitter 70C . I checked by putting them in water to the specified temp on the sensors. The first one had short(continuty between both the poles wether cold or warmed up) and made no difference even when the temp was raised more than 45"and the second one showed no continuty wether cold or warmed up.Ialso changed the fuel pressure regulator and Ue 71610 sensor coolant temp .
Thank you for all your input
