Can I wax my wheel covers?

Hi all.

I'm pretty sure my stock wheel cover's are aluminum... But I don't know anything about cleaning aluminum -- I heard you have to be careful what you put on aluminum.

Should I just clean them with soap and water? I'd like to give them a protective/shiny coat if possible; can I just use normal car body wax on them?

Thanks.

Driven in severe weather most of the year (Arizona 100+ degrees during summer heat or in wet weather especially in harsh monsoons). About 30/70 highway/city driving.
