im having a similar problem with my 2000 Mercury Cougar. at 50,000 miles my transaxle light and check engine light came on and then the car would shift violently.
i took it to the dealership and they said it was either the torque convertor or solenoid valve. when i took it for a second opinion they said it was the solenoid valve so we replaced that and as i was taking it home the same problem happened all over again.
now it's in the shop again where its been stuck for a week and the shop and the ford dealership both have no idea whats wrong with it.
if any one has any ideas please help!
